Sure, authors read from their books all the time: in intimate settings, and in venues where you can drink a glass of wine. So what makes this new series different?
What’s the Big Idea is part presentation/reading and part moderated salon discussion, and our diverse line-up of guest speakers and topics is meant to spark lively discussion, spirited debate and new ideas, in a comfortable, relaxed setting.
We have engaged some well-known personalities to kick off this series, and added a local lens to the event by inviting moderators with a Niagara perspective, to create a provocative tinderbox that will ignite discussion and ensure lively debate of ideas that resonate locally and globally.
Our hope is that before the event, during the discussion and after you’ve left, the big ideas stirred at this salon will continue to spark debate and new ideas. Tempt your palate with a great glass of wine (included with your ticket) and feed your mind and soul with the give and take of a good discussion.
What’s the Big Idea kicks off on October 18 with author Ian Brown who will read from his most recent book about his 60th year and will pivot to a discussion of his recent series of articles on cannabis in The Globe and Mail. The session will be moderated by a man with boundless energy and ideas, the Minister of Energy, Minds and Resources at the Niagara Artists Centre, Stephen Remus.
Tickets are $40 in advance and $50 at the door and includes one glass of wine and light snacks. All events begin at 7 pm.
